Chandigarh seeks art objects for acquisition

Government Museum and Art Gallery, UT Chandigarh has invited the art objects namely ancient, medieval and contemporary sculptures, miniature and contemporary paintings, drawing, graphics, textiles, manuscripts and rare coins for selection by the Art Acquisition Committee, for the Government Museum and Art Gallery, Chandigarh. Persons desirous of offering such objects for sale may immediately write to the Director, Government Museum and Art Gallery, Sector 10-C, Chandigarh 160011 enclosing complete lists of objects (in triplicate) duly signed along with their prices, titles, medium, sizes, brief description, year and name of artists or exhibitors so as to reach him latest by January,21 2007.
The number of contemporary art objects offered for sale should not exceed three in each individual case duly labeled with price, title, medium, size, year etc. on the back except in the case of ancient and medieval sculptures, miniature paintings, textiles, costumes rare coins and manuscripts. The art objects, which have been considered previously and rejected by the Committee, should not be brought. The art objects which are not selected for purchase by the Committee will be returned to the parties concerned at their own cost and risk.
The persons offering antiquities should indicate in their applications that these have been registered under the Antiquities and Treasures Act, 1972. The work of the living artists would be purchased at the price quoted by the Artists, if found reasonable. Since there would be no bargaining, only reasonable prices should be quoted. In the case of antiquities, however, the Art Acquisition Committee may assess the prices and make suitable offers.
