Chandigarh bans carrying of firearms

The District Magistrate, UT, Chandigarh has prohibited to carry fire arms in the Union Territory, Chandigarh.
The decision has been take as carrying of small weapons openly tucked in the waist belt for show off and intimidation and carrying out weapons openly by the license holders could create panic in the public.
The order has come in to force with immediate effect and would be applicable till June 26, 2007. Breach of the order would be punishable under the provisions of India Penal Code. However, the order shall not apply to police or Para-military or military personnel and other Government Servant if called upon to carry fire arms in connection with their official duties. The order shall also not be applicable to others who are specially permitted by a written order.
